Skyy FC owner, Wilson Arthur, believes that players from the Ghana Premier League (GPL) and across the African continent are more committed to playing for the Black Stars than the current national team squad.
In an interview with Citi Sports, Mr. Arthur stated that these players, particularly from the GPL and other African leagues, could defeat Sudan both home and away in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
His comments follow Ghana’s poor performance, culminating in a 2-0 defeat to Sudan in Libya on Tuesday afternoon.
“What we are doing is inviting people to come and play. Most of them are not hungry. They don’t want it so much,” Wilson said.
“There are players who are playing in the Ghana Premier League, who are playing in Tanzania League, who are playing in Rwandan League, who are playing in other African leagues who will cherish the opportunity to play at the African stage.”
“Those are the players I’m saying that maybe we should expand the Black Stars who are local, as in Africa and Ghana, and have the exceptionally good players in Europe to come and join them.”
Ghana will face Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium on November 11, 2024, before traveling to Luanda to wrap up the qualifiers against Angola.
The team must win their last two matches and hope Sudan falters to stand a chance of qualifying for the next event.
