Former Asante Kotoko striker, Yahaya Mohammed, has voiced concerns about the Ghana Premier League’s lack of appeal, which he believes is deterring potential headline sponsors.
With the current season left without a headline sponsor following betPawa’s withdrawal, Mohammed highlights that corporate interest in the league is waning due to its perceived unattractiveness.
In an interview, the former OGC Nice player shared his thoughts on the issue, emphasizing the need for the league to enhance its appeal to secure sponsorship deals.
“The Ghana Premier League at this moment is not attractive,” he told Asempa FM.
“During my days, sponsors were chasing the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to sponsor the league, and I remember that Coca-Cola was even interested in sponsoring the GHALCA Top Four tournament.”
“Today, sponsors are not interested because the Premier League is unattractive. Players are interested in playing in Rwanda and Ethiopia because of the better incentives they will receive, unlike what they will earn by playing in the Ghana Premier League.
