Ghana internationals Christian Atsu and Baba Rahman were both in action for Chelsea as the Stamford Bridge giants slipped to a 2-0 defeat against Rapid Vienna on Saturday.
Rapid scored at the beginning of the game and close to the end to hand Antonio Conte a reality check as he kicked start his Chelsea pre-season campaign.
Defender Baba Rahman started the game and lasted the entire opening 45 minutes until he was replaced by youngster Ola Aina before the start of the season half.
Winger Christian Atsu was introduced ten minutes from time as he took the place of Nigerian international Victor Moses.
The next step for Conte and Chelsea is Velden where pre-season preparations will continue with more training sessions and a game against WAC Pellets on Wednesday evening.
Rahman seems to be assured to a place under the Italian gaffer but Christian Atsu who spent last season on loan at Bournemouth and Malaga must convince the former Juventus and Italy manager of a spot in his team.
