President of World Rugby’s African Association and former Kumasi Asante Kotoko Board Chairman, Herbert Mensah, has expressed disappointment with Ghana’s current sporting situation.
His comments come after Ghana failed to qualify for next year’s AFCON in Morocco, marking the first time in 20 years the country won’t compete in the tournament. The Black Stars finished last in Group F with three draws and three losses after six matches.
In an interview with Citi Sports, Mensah stated that Ghana is no longer considered a great sporting nation.
“We have to look inwardly at ourselves. A great sporting nation like Ghana is no longer a great sporting nation,” He told JoyNews.
“You go to the Olympics, we wasted taxpayers money, you go to Commonwealth games, we’ve wasted taxpayers money. You go to the Nations Cup (AFCON) and the amount of money that is spent, singularly on football, the political sport, is not acceptable,” He concluded
Meanwhile, Otto Addo’s future is yet to be decided by the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
