Ghana, Nigeria locked in stalemate in WAFU U20 opener

Ghana and Nigeria played out a thrilling 1-1 draw in the opening game of the 2025 WAFU Zone B U20 Boys Cup at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

Captain Aziz Misbau gave the Black Satellites an early lead with a stunning first-half strike, capping off a dominant opening spell for the hosts. But the Flying Eagles hit back in the second half through Abdullahi Muhammed, who headed home from a corner to level the game.

Both teams showed flashes of brilliance in a fiercely contested match, but neither could find a winner. The result leaves Ghana and Nigeria on one point each in Group A, with Benin yet to play.

Nigeria face Benin on Sunday, a match that will decide Ghana’s semi-final chances.
