Ghana keeper Dauda sure of Pirates breakthrough, admits World Cup pressure

Goalkeeper Abdul-Fatau Dauda plans to redouble his efforts to break into the starting line-up at South African giants Orlando Pirates to boost his chances of making Ghana’s World Cup squad in June.

The Black Stars shot-stopper admits he is under pressure in Ghana to start playing regularly with the World Cup in Brazil looming.

Dauda was given a rare run by coach Roger de Sa when the Buccaneers defeated top Mozambican side Costa do Sol 2-1 in a practice match in Johannesburg yesterday.

Dauda, who is yet to play for Pirates in an official match since joining them at the beginning of the season, replaced another reserve goalie, Brighton Mhlongo, in the friendly.

“It’s a fact that I’m under pressure to play regularly to be included in the Black Stars’ team to the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil,” he was quoted as saying in the Sowetan newspaper.

“Competition is healthy, it keep the three of us (Mhlongo, Dauda and first-choice goalie Senzo Meyiwa) on our toes. I will keep on working hard to impress coach Roger.
