In a bold move to revitalize the Black Stars, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has overhauled the team’s technical setup.
This major shake-up comes on the heels of a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign, which saw Ghana fail to secure a spot in the 2025 tournament.
At the helm of this new technical team is Winfried Anton Schäfer, a seasoned German manager with an impressive 40-year coaching career. Schäfer’s credentials boast an AFCON win with Cameroon in 2002, making him an ideal candidate to steer the Black Stars back to glory.
Joining Schäfer is Desmond Ofei, a talented young coach who has already made a name for himself by revitalizing Ghana’s U-20 side. Ofei’s fresh perspective and analytical expertise will undoubtedly bring a new dynamic to the team.
To bolster the team’s mental toughness, the GFA has appointed Kris Perquy, a renowned sports psychologist with 17 years of experience.
Perquy’s expertise played a pivotal role in enhancing Belgium’s football psychology framework, and his presence is expected to have a profound impact on the Black Stars’ mindset.
Gregory De Grauwe, a UEFA License B coach and video analyst, will lead the team’s video analysis unit. De Grauwe’s strong background in physical education and analysis will provide the team with invaluable insights, helping them to refine their strategy and gain a competitive edge.
Rounding out the new technical team are Issah Amadou and Abdul Rahman Alhassan, two seasoned equipment officers with a combined 53 years of experience.
Their expertise will ensure that the team’s logistical needs are met, allowing the players to focus on results on the pitch.
