President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku has issued a stern warning to Ghanaians against booing players during challenging moments in matches.
Following the recent disappointing performance of the Black Stars at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Ivory Coast, where the team exited the competition at the group stage, the players faced heavy criticism from fans.
The situation worsened during the ongoing African Games when Black Princesses striker Abdulai Mukarama was booed by fans at the Cape Coast Stadium, an incident that deeply concerned the GFA President.
In a social media post, Okraku highlighted another instance where Black Stars left-back Abdul Baba Rahman was similarly booed at the Baba Yara Stadium during a qualifying game.
We are a football loving country. A country that traditionally supports and loves our players in good times and in bad times.
“Ghana is not a football country that is hostile to its players.
However in recent times, a bad culture seem to be gaining grounds where a few of our fans boo our national players. I mean players who volunteer to represent our country.
This is NOT Ghana and this culture has to be rejected.
In recent times , some of our players including Abdul Baba Rahman and from yesterday’s game in cape coast, striker Mukarama Abdulai (black Princesses)have been booed by some few Ghanaian football fans.
My appeal is that let’s stay together as Ghanaians at all times and let’s support our players in good times and in bad times.
This is NOT a good habit!!!!” he posted on social media.
He called on Ghanaians to reject this negative culture and to stand united in supporting the national teams through all circumstances.
