The Ghana FA has changed the format of the second tier league – merging all zones into three with the winners gaining automatic qualification to the elite division.
Two teams qualify from each of the eight sub-divisions to play in the Middle League playoff – a promotional league tournament for the Ghana Premier League in the old format.
The sub-divisions have now been merged into three – meaning teams in the Division One League will play more matches and cover more distance in the upcoming season.
The change in format was unanimously approved by the GFA’s Congress on Tuesday.
The rising cost of the new format is diluted by the announcement of the Ghana National Bank as the new headline sponsors of the Ghana second tier league.
