Ghana FA puts definite stop to wooing Boateng back from retirement

The Ghana FA will no longer pursue the agenda of having Kevin-Prince Boateng rescind his decision to quit international football.

The 25-year-old announced his decision to quit the Black Stars in November last year after impressing at the 2010 World Cup which landed him his dream move to AC Milan.

Attempts have since been made to have the former Portsmouth midfielder rescind his decision but he remains resolute on his stance claiming his decision is based on medical grounds with the physical exertions of both club and international football proving too much for him.

The Ghana FA meanwhile who reignited their efforts to have Boateng available again after the Black Stars’ disappointing finish at the 2012 Nations Cup now appears to have had enough of the rejection and will no longer chase the matter.

“There is that much the FA can do,” the GFA’s Communication Director Ibrahim Sannie-Daara said.

“Our current coach has been there twice, we have sent emissaries, some other Ghanaian players have spoken to him and even his family but he sticks to his decision so I think we should respect it.

“How many times haven’t we seen players retire only to rescind their decision later under different circumstances or when the situation changes. So we leave it at that.”

Boateng who featured for Germany’s junior side obtained Fifa’s clearance in time to feature at the World Cup for Ghana in South Africa.
