Ghana defender Samuel Inkoom has no regrets leaving FC Basel

Ghana defender Samuel Inkoom insists he has no regrets leaving Swiss side FC Basel where he had a successful spell.

The right-back was well on top of his game during his time at St. Jakob-Park where he made 43 appearances within his two-year stay.

The ex Asante Kotoko player however left Switzerland in a big-money move to Ukrainian club Dnipro in 2011 where all was initially rosy.

He however fell out with manager Juande Ramos after defying a club order to play for the Ghana U23 side in the ultimate qualifier to the 2011 All Africa Games.

This resulted in the player’s complete freezing out from the Dnipro first team.

Inkoom had to join French club Bastia on a six-month loan during the winter break in order to rescue his stagnated career.

The 23-year-old has only started playing again for the Ligue 1 club but insists he has no regrets quitting Basel who are now in the semi finals of the Europa League.

“Not at all (whether he regretted leaving Basel), it was a learning curve for me as a professional player,” he told the 90 minutes newspaper.

“I left Kotoko after a wonderful time there to play professional football in Europe.

“It wasn’t easy but I worked hard to leave a legacy as one of their best ever right-backs.

“I am proud of what I did and they are also happy with what I did during my time there.

“I still have an excellent relationship with the club though.”
