Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah has been handed his first call-up to the England squad for matches against Ukraine and Scotland.
The invitation ultimately ends the Ghana FA’s hopes of persuading the centre forward to switch allegiance for the Black Stars.
Nketiah has scored two goals in three Premier League games this season and is England’s U-21 record scorer with 16 goals.
He stood a chance of playing for Ghana after being born in England to Ghanaian parents but the invitation to the Three Lions extinguishes any hope of featuring for Chris Hughton’s side.
Gareth Southgate is expected to hand the 24-year-old his England debut in the upcoming games.
