General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Prosper Harrison Addo, says efforts are in full swing to ensure the swift resumption of the Ghana Premier League.
The league was suspended following the tragic death of Francis Frimpong, also known as “Pooley,” during a Week 19 match between Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC at Nana Koromansah II Park.
“We are going progressively and as fast as we can,” Prosper said in an interview with Asempa FM.
“We are moving together and we want to bring everybody along. We will make that engagement and announce a date for the resumption of the league”
“We will plead with the supporters to be patient, [announcement] will be done soon.
“Matches will not come off this weekend but we are moving as fast as we can.
Though no date has been set for the league’s return, the GFA is implementing new safety measures, including appointing Club Safety and Security Officers and installing CCTV cameras at match venues.
Clubs that fail to comply with the enhanced security protocols will face severe penalties, such as a GH₵20,000 fine and a ban from hosting games.
