GFA to take action against Awol trio

A statement from the Ghana Football Association general secretary Kofi Nsiah confirmed the players had stayed away from the game without the permission of head coach Milovan Rajevac.

The GFA said they had sought the release of the players for the match in Angola from their club sides and consider their failure to travel as a serious issue.

“The FA will take action after concluding investigations following players to secure the consent of head coach Milovan Rajevac,” the GFA statement said.

“In accordance with prescribed Fifa regulations for the release of players for national team matches the FA wrote to and secured the release of 20 players to honour the World Cup qualifying match against Mali on the November 15 and the international friendly against Angola on the November 18.

“Unfortunately three players namely Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari and Asamoah Gyan did not travel with the team to Angola on Monday night for the Angola friendly.

“The players stayed out without the permission of the Head Coach, Mr. Milovan Rajevac. The FA views this act with great concern and will investigate the matter further to inform its next course of action,” the statement concluded.

The three players all started the World Cup qualifier against Mali on Sunday but did a no-show as the rest of the players waited at the Kotoka International Airport to catch their flight to Luanda via Johannesburg.

KickOffGhana.com understands the trio left Accra for their various bases in Europe on Tuesday night.
