The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is taking steps to reinforce the Black Stars’ technical team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Communications Director Henry Asante Twum has confirmed.

Speaking to LUV FM, Asante Twum revealed that discussions are ongoing to bring additional personnel into the team’s backroom staff, following recommendations made by head coach Otto Addo after Ghana sealed qualification for the tournament.

“There are also plans to strengthen the technical team, which is very well-known, and it is one of the recommendations that the coach made immediately after our qualification. That discussion is also ongoing,” Asante Twum said.

He added that announcements regarding new appointments will be made in due course, as the GFA intensifies preparations for the global showpiece.

“A lot is being done, but the interesting thing in football is that everything you do behind the scenes is not recognised until the team lines up on the pitch to play,” he noted.

Ghana will kick off their 2026 World Cup campaign on June 17 against Panama in Toronto, with preparations expected to continue steadily in the lead-up to the opener.

“From now until June 17, when we line up for our first match in Toronto against Panama, we will continue to work to make the team better,” Asante Twum added.

As part of their build-up to the tournament, the Black Stars are scheduled to face Austria and Germany in international friendly matches this March. The 2026 World Cup will be co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States.
