The absence of Medeama’s Jonathan Sowah from the Black Stars’ squad for the upcoming friendlies against the United States and Mexico has sparked inquiries from fans.
To shed light on this matter, Ghana Football Association’s spokesman, Henry Asante Twum, provided an explanation.
According to Asante Twum, Sowah’s omission from the squad is not a reflection of his skills on the field but rather a strategic decision.
Sowah remains a key part of Medeama’s lineup for their upcoming friendly against DC United, a crucial fixture for the club.
Furthermore, Asante Twum revealed that Sowah’s exceptional form has not gone unnoticed by the Black Stars’ management. Sowah was initially placed on Chris Hughton’s standby list.
“In every call-up, when the coach selects his team, he designates one or two players in each position as standby options. From the initial list submitted by the coach, Jonathan was on the standby list,” he explained to Peace FM.
“Typically, they wait until all the league matches are completed over the weekend, and if there is an injury, they will promptly call in another player.
“In this case, Medeama, as I speak to you, is en route to Washington. Being Ghanaian champions, they have an important game, and due to some visa acquisition challenges, the club requested that the FA release Fatawu to play for them in their friendly match. After that, he will rejoin the Black Stars group.””
