The Ghana Football Association has officially opened applications for football academy licensing following the approval of the GFA Registered Football Academy Licensing Regulations 2025.
The new framework is part of the association’s push to professionalizeGFA youth football development and eliminate unregulated training centres across the country.
How to Apply
Interested football training institutions must first send an email to info@ghanafa.org expressing interest in registering as a football academy. The GFA will then engage applicants to outline requirements before formally opening the documentation and inspection process.
The regulations are designed to ensure that only certified institutions provide structured training for young players aged 6–18 years, promoting safety, professionalism, and quality development pathways.
Stricter Rules for Existing “Academies”
Clubs currently using the word “Academy” in their names must meet the new licensing standards within the 2025/26 season. Those who fail to comply will be required to remove the term from their branding and operate strictly as football clubs.
Safeguarding and Development Standards
All licensed academies must appoint Safeguarding Officers to protect the welfare of young players. The regulations also require academies to participate in district-level leagues to improve competitiveness and player development.
Transparency and Compliance
The GFA will publish the list of licensed academies on its official website. Licences must be renewed annually after inspection reviews to ensure continued compliance with operational and safety standards.
The new policy aims to build a safer, more structured football ecosystem in Ghana while eliminating substandard training establishments and strengthening grassroots talent development across the country.
