The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, led a high-powered delegation on Monday to express condolences to the family of the late Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, former First Lady of the Republic of Ghana.
The visit, which took place at the Rawlings residence in Ridge, Accra, was to commiserate with the family following her recent passing at age 76.
President Simeon-Okraku was joined by Vice President Mark Addo, General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo, and Executive Council Members Samuel Aboabire and Eugene Noel Nobel. Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Kofi Adams, was also part of the delegation.
Speaking on behalf of the football fraternity, President Simeon-Okraku extended heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family, describing the late Nana Konadu as “a symbol of courage, compassion, and progress.”
The GFA leadership noted her lasting impact on Ghanaian society, particularly her efforts in advancing women’s empowerment and social development.
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, served as Ghana’s First Lady from 1979 to 2001.
She founded the 31st December Women’s Movement, a pioneering initiative that transformed the lives of countless women across the country through education, entrepreneurship, and advocacy.
Her passing marks the end of an era for one of Ghana’s most influential public figures – a woman whose vision and determination reshaped the narrative of women’s involvement in national development.
