The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has revealed an innovative three-club playoff strategy in response to WAFA SC’s withdrawal from Zone Two of the Division One League.
WAFA SC’s decision to step back from the Zone Two competition stems from their commitment to nurturing young talents in the Volta Region.
To address the vacancy left by WAFA SC’s departure, the GFA’s Executive Council, utilizing Article 78 of the GFA Statutes 2019, has devised a robust solution. The objective is to determine the most fitting replacement team for the upcoming season’s Access Bank Division One League – Zone Two. This involves a playoff that brings together three second-placed teams from the respective Regional Second Division Leagues within Zone Two.
The participating clubs in this pivotal playoff are Young Red Bull FC (Securing the second spot in the Central Region), Mahala Football Academy FC (Earning the second position in the Ashanti Region), and Team Move FC (Clinching second place in the Western Region).
These three teams are set to engage in a comprehensive all-play-all League format. The outcome of this format will decide the team that will be awarded WAFA SC’s coveted place in the Division One League.
The proposed schedule for the pivotal playoff matches is as follows:
- Team A vs. Team B
- Team B vs. Team C
- Team C vs. Team A
As the highly anticipated event approaches, the Ghana Football Association will soon release the vital details of the draw, encompassing the venue selections and the specific dates for the playoff clashes. Stay tuned for updates from the GFA in the imminent days.
