Kurt Okraku, President of the head of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), remains resolute in his stance despite recent criticisms, asserting that football is secure under his guidance. On Friday, August 11, Okraku officially submitted his nomination for a second term in office.
Addressing the media, he underscored the significance of unity and collaborative efforts in overseeing the sport. Okraku extended his gratitude to delegates who stood behind his candidacy, as evidenced by their presence at the filing event held at the FA headquarters.
“Despite the challenges Ghana football has faced, it is on an upward trajectory,” Okraku affirmed. He assured, “The capable hands addressing you are the hands of a trusted leader. People place their belief and trust in leadership, especially when they share the leader’s vision.”
Okraku emphasized the need for solidarity during both good and trying times in football. He expressed his openness to diverse perspectives, acknowledging the strength derived from collective minds working together. “My arms are open, ready to embrace new ideas, for it is the amalgamation of different perspectives that fortifies our football family.”
Okraku extended his appreciation to various football entities, including Women Premier League clubs, Premier League clubs, Division One League clubs, and Regional Football Associations, for their unwavering support. He pledged commitment to football development and welcomed individuals who share the vision and possess the necessary skills to join the cause.
With conviction, Okraku concluded, “Ghana football remains in secure hands.”
However, Okraku is expected to encounter strong competition from former GFA vice president, George Afriyie, who has also entered the race for the presidency.
The Ghana Football Association’s Elective Congress is slated for September 27 at the Redaach Memorial Hotel in Tamale, where the future leadership of the GFA will be decided.
