The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced a major upgrade to referee welfare ahead of the 2025/26 season, with improved match allowances and comprehensive insurance benefits.
At the 31st Ordinary Congress in Prampram, GFA President Kurt Okraku revealed that FIFA-accredited referees will now receive ₵2,500 per game, while non-FIFA referees will earn ₵2,000 in the Ghana Premier League, Division One League, and Women’s Premier League.
“Referees deserve our full support, and their well-being will be at the heart of the new season,” Okraku said.
In addition to the pay rise, the GFA is introducing a wide-ranging insurance policy for all 280 referees across the three leagues.
This will cover group life, critical illness, permanent disability, medical expenses, and workman’s compensation, along with benefits for spouses, children, and parents, plus funeral support.
