The Ghana Football Association has thrown its support behind the Ayensuano District Basic Schools Sports Festival as part of efforts to promote youth development and expand opportunities for girls in football.
The festival is being organised in partnership with the Ghana Education Service in the Ayensuano District and will run from March 9 to March 13, 2026 at Kofipare.
Held under the theme “Strengthening the Reset: Unleashing the Champion in You,” the programme aims to nurture young talent while combining sports with education and mentorship.
The event will also honour Rev. Alexander Narh Amanya for his commitment to promoting education and youth development in the district.
Through its Women’s Football Development Unit, the GFA views the festival as an important platform to advance the Education Pillar of its Women’s Football Strategy.
This strategy focuses on raising awareness, encouraging participation and creating development pathways for girls who want to pursue football.
As part of the initiative, the GFA will organise empowerment and educational sessions to introduce female students to opportunities available in women’s football.
Jennifer Amankwaa Sarpong will lead discussions on women’s football development pathways and career opportunities within the sport.
The association’s safeguarding officer, Bernice Bempah, will also engage the students on the GFA Safeguarding Code of Ethics and the importance of maintaining safe sporting environments.
Public health practitioner Patience Boadu will conduct sessions on girls’ health in sports, including topics such as hydration, menstruation, hygiene and healthy living.
The GFA believes the sports festival will create a supportive environment for young girls to discover their potential both on and off the field while strengthening efforts to grow women’s football across Ghana.
