The Vice president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mr.George Afriyie, believes the country’s football governing body is not in the best of times with the Ministry of Youth and Sports

The two have had a go at each other after the Black Satellites failed to seal qualification to the Africa Youth Championship to be staged in Zambia next year.

” Previously if you had asked me about the perceived misunderstanding between the GFA and the MOYS, I would have maybe said I do not see where the problem was but today my position on that question has changed,” Afriyie told Metro FM

“It’s changed because it’s clear that things are not the same and the earlier we sit down to discuss the way forward, the better for Ghana sports or football.”

“We are not in the best of times because i have been a member of the Ghana Football Association executive committee for about ten years now so I have seen how the relationships between the MOYS and the GFA in the past was.”

“ For sometime now, things are not like how they used to be in the past ”

” The procedure and the working relationship has always been simple. When it comes to the national (football) teams activities, the football association of Ghana fall on the ministry of youth and sports in terms of players allowances, in terms of flight arrangements, in terms of hotel accommodation and in terms of winning bonuses and honorarium, the GFA always rely on the MOYS for all these.”

“But when it comes to the normal day to day running of football in the country.

“we do not normally engage the MOYS. I am talking about the club football, refereeing, sports medicine and those things. We do not normally need the MOYS for these.”

“But these days there are challenges with everything and that is where the problem is.”
