Former Asante Kotoko spokesperson Sarfo Duku has opened up on the club’s decision to part ways with goalkeeper Frederick Asare, citing excessive contract demands.
Speaking on Akoma 87.9 FM, Duku revealed that Kotoko had been in talks with Asare for over a year to extend his deal, but negotiations stalled due to the player’s high financial expectations.
“We tried everything to renew his contract, but the terms he demanded were simply outrageous,” Duku said. “It’s not that Kotoko didn’t want to keep him; we just couldn’t meet the figures he was asking for.”
Asare, who joined Kotoko from Accra Lions, was a regular feature last season and had been viewed as part of the club’s long-term plans.
However, Duku confirmed that after prolonged discussions and no compromise, the club had no option but to let him go.
