Ghanaian international Frank Acheampong played a crucial role in Henan FC’s dramatic Chinese FA Cup quarter-final win over Shanghai Shenhua on Wednesday.
The former Black Stars winger started the match and scored in the second half, helping his side to a 3-3 draw at the Shanghai Stadium before clinching victory via penalties.
Acheampong’s goal came in the 52nd minute, finishing off a pass from Yeljan Shinar to give Henan a temporary 2-1 lead.
Shanghai Shenhua had taken the lead through Luis Asué in the 29th minute, but Henan responded quickly with an equalizer from Felippe Cardoso four minutes later.
The hosts fought back with Wilson Manafa netting a late goal in the 86th minute to send the match into extra time.
Both teams added a goal each during the added 30 minutes, leading to a tense penalty shootout that Henan FC eventually won.
Henan will now face Chengdu Rongcheng FC in the semi-finals on August 19.
