Former Ghana captain and ex-VfL Wolfsburg skipper Charles Kwablan Akonnor has called on Jonas Adjetey to fight for a place in the starting lineup at the Bundesliga club.
The 22-year-old defender recently sealed a move from FC Basel, committing his future to Wolfsburg on a long-term deal running until 2030.
Akonnor, who previously wore the armband at the German side, shared insights from his own spell in Germany.
He acknowledged that while adapting abroad can be demanding, club structures often provide strong backing for players willing to grow.
According to him, the atmosphere in German football evolved positively over time.
“That World Cup helped Germans accept foreign nationals more, so Adjetey will have the privilege of being welcomed well,” he noted.
“All he needs to do now is to work hard, become a starter and not just a bench player. That will help and prepare him for the next level,” he said.
With a fresh chapter unfolding in the Bundesliga, Adjetey’s development could hinge on how quickly he cements a regular role.
