Former Real Madrid and Colombia star Rincon dies aged 55

Former Real Madrid and Colombia star Freddy Rincon has died aged 55. 

Rincon was involved in a road accident early this week when his car collided with a bus in Cali, sustaining severe head injuries. 

Laureano Quintero, the medical director of the Imbanaco Clinic in Cali where Rincon was being treated, told reporters: “Despite all the efforts of our teams, Freddy Eusebio Rincon Valencia has passed away.”

Rincón lifted a Club World Cup and two Brazilian league titles with Corinthians, two Colombian league titles with América de Cali, and secured the Colombian Cup crown with Independiente Santa Fe.

He also scored 17 goals during his international career. 

A statement from Real Madrid read; 

“Real Madrid C. F., its president and board of directors are deeply saddened by the passing of Freddy Rincón, who played for Real Madrid between 1995 and 1996.

“Real Madrid wishes to express its condolences and warmth to all of his family members, teammates, coaches, clubs and loved ones,”
