Former players distanced from national teams, says Joe Debrah

Former Black Stars striker Joe Debrah has revealed that the efforts of former players to positively contribute to the development of football in the country have not been successful.

According to the former Asante Kotoko legend, the national team handlers feel that the ‘old players’ are interested in their respective jobs rather than the intention of helping.

Debrah made this statement following Ghana’s 4-0 defeat against the USA in an international friendly match played on Wednesday in Nashville.

Giovanni Reyna’s brace, a Christian Pulisic penalty, and Folarin Balogun’s sublime finish gave the United States the most famous victory against the Black Stars.

“As legends, we will want to get close to our national teams and the clubs to offer needed and quality advice but if you try to get close to the teams, they think you are coming for their jobs, and the way you will be received is just awful,” Debrah said on Kessben TV.

Debrah played for Asante Kotoko in the 1990s and was an influential figure by then in the Porcupine Warriors set up.
