Former Ghana midfielder Charles Taylor has expressed his dissatisfaction with the lack of playing time for local players in the Black Stars.
In recent years, players in the domestic top-flight have struggled to earn a call-up to the national team.
Otto Addo’s latest squad for AFCON qualifiers and the Kirin Cup included only two players Daniel Afriyie Barnieh and Augustine Okrah
But they were both left out of the games against Madagascar and the Central African Republic (CAR), which enraged Taylor.
The former Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko star believes Barnieh is superior to Felix Afena-Gyan, who led Ghana’s attack and scored in a 3-0 win over Madagascar as well as featured in the 1-1 draw with CAR.
“Afriyie Barnieh is more skilful than Afena Gyan. I would start Barnieh if I were to be the head coach of the Black Stars,” he said.
Barnieh, who was left out of the Black Stars’ trip to Angola for the Central African Republic match, has been recalled for the Kirin Cup in Japan.
