Reports have emerged indicating that Belgian coach Tom Saintfiet has thrown his hat into the ring for the vacant position of head coach for the Black Stars of Ghana.
Local media sources reveal that Saintfiet has formally applied for the role following the dismissal of Chris Hughton. Many within the footballing community have touted Saintfiet as a strong candidate for the job, especially after his recent departure as head coach of The Gambia national team following their exit from the AFCON group stage.
With a wealth of experience in African football spanning over a decade, Saintfiet has managed six national teams since his inaugural coaching role in Africa in 2008.
His coaching stints have taken him to countries including Malawi, Namibia, Ethiopia, Togo, Zimbabwe, and most recently, The Gambia. Additionally, he has also plied his trade with clubs such as Free State Stars in South Africa and Young Africans in Tanzania.
Notably, Saintfiet’s tenure with The Gambia garnered significant attention and acclaim, as he played an instrumental role in elevating the country’s footballing stature.
Under his guidance, The Gambia secured qualification for their maiden AFCON appearance in 2021, achieving their best tournament finish by reaching the quarter-final stage.
At 50 years old, Saintfiet’s track record and achievements have positioned him as a sought-after figure in African football management, attracting interest from top-tier nations across the continent.
