Former Ghanaian international footballer, Augustine Ahinful, has voiced his frustrations over the absence of a structured football system in the country.
In a recent interview with Graphic Sports, the former Borussia Dortmund striker highlighted the challenges faced in Ghana’s football landscape, emphasizing the importance of having a well-defined system in place.
Ahinful stated, “Ghana does not have any system that we play, but the coach should always have a system for the team.”
He stressed the need for a cohesive game plan that should ideally align with the strengths and capabilities of the selected players, a responsibility he placed on the technical staff.
He further emphasized that if players are chosen but cannot effectively adapt to the intended system, it presents a significant challenge for the coaching staff.
“The players you have will determine the system or the format you intend using and the players are selected by the technical handlers.
“So if you select a player and he comes in and cannot slot into the system that you want to use then you the handler have a lot of work to do,”
This issue raises questions about the synergy between player selection and tactical planning, highlighting the complexity of developing a successful football framework in Ghana.
Augustine Ahinful’s comments shed light on the critical need for a more structured approach to football development in the country.
