Rita Odei Asare, the Head of the Public Relations Unit at the National Sports Authority, has officially announced that football will make a return to the venue in January.
This announcement follows a period of uncertainty, triggered by the revelation that the Accra Sports Stadium would be utilized for Christmas-related activities, causing Ghana Premier League clubs that regularly called the stadium home to seek alternative match venues.
Some found refuge at the Baba Yara Stadium and WAFA Park in Sokagope, prompting spirited debates among Ghanaians about the fate of their beloved sport.
The decision to repurpose the Accra Sports Stadium for festive activities drew mixed reactions from the football-loving populace.
Yet, in the midst of this discourse, the National Sports Authority remains resolute in its commitment to the beautiful game. Rita Odei Asare, has reassured Ghanaians that, come January, the Accra Sports Stadium would once again echo with the cheers and excitement of passionate football fans.
“When we enter January everything will be in place like it used to be,” she told Peace FM as monitored by Footballghana.com
The Mantse Derby which was initially scheduled to be played at the Accra Sports Stadium between Great Olympics and Hearts of Oak will take place today at the Baba Yara Stadium.
