Retained in the list of 25 players of the French team for the 2022 World Cup, Youssouf Fofana confided his reaction to journalists, alongside his coach Philippe Clement.
The absences of some are the happiness of others. Retained for the first time in the France team during the rally in September, against Austria (2-0) and Denmark (0-2) in the League of Nations, after the packages of Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kanté , Youssouf Fofana will travel to Qatar. Taking advantage of the unavailability of the two 2018 world champions, the AS Monaco midfielder is part of the list of 25 players called up by the coach of the France team, Didier Deschamps, for the 2022 World Cup (20 November -18 December).
“A lot of joy and pride”
At a press conference, the 23-year-old bounced back from his summons to the Blues. “When the list was revealed, I was at home, like all French people, in front of my television. At the time, I felt a lot of joy and pride, especially in view of the progress made so far. I tell myself that we cannot aim higher than the French team in a career. But when I look back on my route, it allows me to come back to earth and keep my head clear knowing everything I’ve been through. It’s a big competition, and we know that there are a lot of criteria to get called up. I’m glad to have answered it in such a short time”said the former Strasbourg player alongside his coach Philippe Clement.
“It is a great thing and an honor for him to be present in the list of Blues. He was selected in addition with France which is one of the favorites to win the World Cup”welcomed the Belgian technician, also invited to react to the non-convocation of Wissam Ben Yedder.
