The Sports Ministry, keen to assert its control over the administration of sports in Ghana is looking to put its representative on every management committee of the various national teams but the GFA has hit back insisting it is only they who have the mandate to constitute national team management teams. KickOffGhana.com understands from sources within the football association that FIFA has demanded a written report on the current happenings as it looks to put its foot down. The world football governing body has a strict policy of no governmental interference in the running of football but the transitional team on sports under the new National Democratic Congress government has recommended a greater say in the running of the various national teams which still receives a chunk of its funding from government. With Ghana’s 2010 World Cup qualifier against Mali in Bamako a few weeks away, there are those who fear the impasse could affect negatively on the campaign and wonder why there is all of a sudden the desperation for government representatives on the management committee when the team qualified for its first World Cup without any such arrangements.
