In a statement from Anglogold Ashanti, owners of the club said they had abandoned takeover talks and given interim management duties at the club to an 8-man team led by Kwesi Enyan.

Fortia and Anglogold had announced a takeover of the club in a blaze of publicity in October last year, but kickoffGhana.com understands that disagreements over who controls the vital Sam Okyere Academy and ownership of the club’s stadium stalled talks.

The interim team has been tasked by the mining giants to recommend a new chief executive for the club, put in a place a new coach but more crucially ensure the club retains its Premiership status.

Fianoo who was on the verge of returning to the club after his resignation before the Portia deal is the front-runner for the chief executive’s job again. In addition, KickOffGhana.com is reliably informed that if he goes back to Obuasi, he will do so with David Duncan whose the last job in Ghana was with Ashanti Gold.

Duncan turned down the advances of Tema Youth and is due in Obuasi on Sunday with Fianoo to meet the club’s new interim team.

They will have a simple brief, which will save the 1997 African Champions League losing finalists and three-time Ghanaian League champions from heading out of the top flight League.
