Sochaux to gain upper hand over Paris FC

Monday evening sees the first round of fixtures in this new French Ligue 2 campaign wrapped up as Sochaux play host to Paris FC at their Stade Auguste-Bonal with both teams keen to make a positive start to this new domestic second tier season.

Sochaux narrowly missed out on promotion up to Ligue 1 at the end of last season as the 5th placed side battled their way through to the Ligue 2 play-off final but fell at the last hurdle on penalties after the scores were level at 0-0 at the end of regular and extra time.

Monday’s hosts will therefore be keen to go one step better this time around.

But their first home game of the season sees the visit of last season’s 4th placed team, Paris FC, to the Stade Auguste-Bonal so this could be a tight affair.

Nevertheless, Sochaux suffered just two defeats in their final 12 matches of last season which came in the form of losses incurred against Valenciennes and Auxerre.

But also consisted of seven wins, one of which was a 2-1 win away at Paris FC which was gained in the 1st round of the play-offs at the end of last term.

Paris FC will be looking to not only avenge last season’s defeat to their hosts, Sochaux, on Monday night but they too will be seeking to go a step better this season in order to realise their ambitions of promotion up to Ligue 1 this term.

Paris FC lost just twice in their last eight matches of last season with the losses being incurred against Bastia and Sochaux but they also picked up four wins in the process, two of which were on the road with victories being collected at the likes of Rodez and Amiens.

However, despite being extremely tough to beat on home soil at their Stade Charléty as they were handed just the one defeat at home all last season, it was Paris FC’s poor and inconsistent results last season that really let the visitors down and ultimately cost them automatic promotion.

Paris FC managed to collect just two wins out of their last seven outings on their travels while losses at Nancy, Toulouse and Bastia did the damage.

Sochaux therefore look the more likely for the three points on Monday night.
