Black Stars goalkeepers’ trainer Fatawu Dauda has lauded Accra Hearts of Oak captain Benjamin Asare, describing his humility, focus and coachability as key drivers behind his steady rise.
The 33-year-old is currently Ghana’s first-choice goalkeeper as the Ghana national football team prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He recently produced a standout display in Hearts of Oak’s narrow league win over Asante Kotoko SC, further strengthening his growing reputation.
In an interview with 3Sports, Dauda revealed that he maintains constant communication with Asare and his club’s goalkeeper trainer, sharing technical feedback to aid his development at both club and national levels.
“I’ve been in that position before. Because he’s in the team as a Black Stars player, and that’s my department, so anytime they play the game, I get in touch with him, with his goalkeeper coach. We share ideas, we give feedbacks for the way how he can improve as a goalkeeper and as an individual.
“So I think he’s doing well for himself and for his club. Being a captain, a leader, and then a commander, you know, it’s not easy. For that position, definitely, you know, you need to be criticised if things are not going well. That’s how it should be. But for now, I think he’s staying focused because it’s someone who will listen. He’s a fast learner, he’s coachable. So I’m happy for him.”
Dauda stressed that leadership from the goalkeeping position comes with enormous responsibility and scrutiny. However, he expressed confidence that Asare possesses the mental strength to handle pressure, embrace criticism and continue refining his game.
The endorsement from the national team’s goalkeepers’ trainer signals growing belief within the Black Stars setup that Asare is maturing into not only a dependable shot-stopper but also a commanding figure capable of organising his defence with authority.
