Ghana goalkeeper Fatau Dauda says he does not fear having to fight for the number spot with potential returnee Richard Kingson ahead of the 2014 World Cup playoffs against Egypt.
The 28-year-old has been the country’s established number one since the 2013 African Cup of Nations in South Africa.
But the Orlando Pirates shot-stopper has come under criticism in recent times following his nervy performance during the Black Stars 2-1 win over Zambia in a World Cup group decider early this month.
Some high-profile personalities including Stephen Appiah, John Pantsil,  Abubakar Damba and ace commentator Moses Foh-Amoaning  amongst others have clamoured for the recall of veteran goalie Richard Kingson ahead of the crucial playoffs, meaning Dauda must return to his best form quickly or risk being dropped to the bench.
But the former Ashantigold glovesman says he does not fear competition Kingson could bring to him.
“The game [football] is all about challenges. I left AshGold this summer for a fresher challenge here at Pirates and I’m doing all I can to snatch the first choice role here,†Dauda told 90 Minutes newspaper
“I came to meet a number one [Kwarasey] at the national team, put up my best at training and got the nod and so will I continue to put my best and try to maintain the status quo.
“I’m not concerned about who comes in to challenge for the number one spot at all.
“The most important thing for us all [players] is to give our best in making sure Ghana qualifies to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.â€
Dauda has struggled to command a starting role at South African side Orlando Pirates so far.
