Hearts and Kotoko have dominated the club scene in Ghana for years but with increasing financial muscle, clubs like Kpandu Heart of Lions, Berekum Chelsea and Aduana Stars are threatening that dominance. Aduana won the Ghana League in their first season in the top flight while Chelsea have and continue to attract some of the best players in Ghana football. These days Hearts and Kotoko don’t hold sway again, Fabian told KickOffGhana.com. In the past players were happy to sign for those two clubs but these days every club can compete favourably for the best players. “I earmarked a few players for Hearts of Oak, the club could not come up with the money but Chelsea could and they moved there.” Kessben FC are top of the standings in the ongoing Glo Premier League with Chelsea second and Asante Kotoko one of the only traditional clubs in the top five. But this weekend, Hearts and Kotoko will enjoy the limelight all over again as they battle at the Baba Yara Stadium in the fixture that always sets Ghana football alight.
