FA Cup: Barnieh nets winner as Hearts of Oak defend trophy

Hearts of Oak have defended the MTN FA Cup trophy after beating Bechem United 2-1 in the final at the Baba Yara Stadium.

The Phobians. who lost four consecutive matches, put up a spirited performance to return to winning ways against the Hunters.

Samuel Boadu’s side had to do that in a difficult circumstance as Emmanuel Avornyo struck to put Bechem ahead in the 45th minute.

On the stroke of halftime, Caleb Amankwah produced a stunning volley to restore parity.

Twenty minutes into the second half, Hearts completed the comeback thanks to a strike from their forward, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh.

The situation went from bad to worse for the 2016 champions as their talisman, Augustine Okrah was sent off after heading a linesman on the nose.

The triumph means Hearts have won the competition back-to-back for the first time in 20 years.

They will represent Ghana in next year’s CAF Confederation Cup.
