Liverpool have reportedly reached an agreement in principle with Bayer Leverkusen’s dynamic right-back Jeremie Frimpong for a contract running until 2030.

The Reds are preparing to trigger the Dutch international’s €40 million release clause this summer as they plan for life after Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Frimpong, who is of Ghanaian descent, has been a standout performer for Leverkusen under Xabi Alonso, playing a key role in their Bundesliga title-winning campaign.

Known for his blistering pace, attacking flair, and defensive tenacity, the 23-year-old has attracted attention from several top European clubs, but Liverpool appear to have won the race for his signature.

This move comes amid growing speculation that Trent Alexander-Arnold is edging closer to a high-profile transfer to Real Madrid. With his contract set to expire in 2025 and renewal talks reportedly stalling, Liverpool have identified Frimpong as the ideal successor.

Frimpong’s potential arrival marks a significant shift in Liverpool’s tactical planning under new management.

His ability to contribute both offensively and defensively fits well into the club’s evolving system, and his proven experience in European competitions adds further value to the acquisition.

If the deal is finalized, Frimpong will become one of Liverpool’s key summer signings, as the Merseyside club begins a new chapter aiming to rebuild and contend for major honours at home and in Europe.
