Ex SWAG president Anthony Ackah passes away

Mr. Ackah Anthony, former President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), passed away at the Police Hospital in Accra on June 21, 2025.

During his tenure as SWAG President from 2007 to 2015, Anthony left a lasting legacy through his strong leadership and impactful advocacy in Ghana’s sports landscape.

As a veteran journalist, he served as Assistant Editor at Graphic Sports and wrote the popular column “Candid Corner” in The Mirror, known for its bold commentary on Ghana’s sports sector.

Under Anthony’s leadership, SWAG organized successful awards editions and oversaw the redesign of the SWAG Club House.

He also led a national membership drive to strengthen the association.

Anthony is survived by his wife, Evelyn, a former Director at the Ministry of Information, and their four children.

His contributions to Ghana’s sports journalism will be remembered for years to come, and he will be deeply missed by his colleagues and peers in the industry.
