Everton: Brereton Diaz their no.1 target

Journalist Jacque Talbot has dropped a claim regarding the possibility of Everton securing a late move for Blackburn Rovers striker and reported Toffees target Ben Brereton Diaz.

What’s the talk?

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Talbot was initially asked about the possibility of the Merseyside club signing Rennes striker Serhou Guirassy, who also has been linked with a move to Goodison Park.

In response, Talbot had this to say regarding Guirassy and Brereton Diaz: “Yes, if they can’t get Brereton Diaz. He’s not the best player, but he will certainly be one they’re looking at.

“I don’t think he’s the number one target – I think that’s Brereton Diaz, of Blackburn. I imagine that will get done, which makes a lot of sense.”

He could be elite for Lampard

In 134 senior appearances for Rovers, the 23-year-old has found the net 33 times and delivered 13 assists along the way, demonstrating immense attacking talent.

To further highlight his influence in the final third, across the 37 league games he appeared in last season, the Chile international managed more shots at goal (103) and more shots on target (49) than any other player at the Lancashire club.

In fact, only four other players in the entire division had more shots on target than the Blackburn forward, who could reportedly cost the Toffees up to £20m.

Everton currently have the lowest rate for goals per shot on target (0.09) in the Premier League this season, so adding a clinical player like Brereton Diaz to their squad would provide Frank Lampard with a massive boost before the summer transfer window closes.

Indeed, hailed by Gary Brazil as an “elite” player, he could be exactly that if he hits the ground running at Goodison. After all, he’s already in tremendous form this campaign with the Blackburn star scoring two goals and supplying one assist in six appearances.

Would you be happy if Everton signed Brereton Diaz?

A haul of 22 goals last term also paints the picture that he is very much an elite player in the making and with four goals for his country already, he is very swiftly becoming a force to be reckoned with.

The attacker has many strings to his bow, which includes versatility. He has been deployed on the left and right wings throughout his career, as well as up top and this part of his game will undoubtedly make him a useful squad option for Lampard should any of his current attacking players get struck with injury throughout the campaign.

In addition to recently securing a deal for Neal Maupay, signing the Championship star could be the icing on the cake for Lampard.
