Asante Kotoko defeated Golden Kick 2-1 at the University of Ghana Stadium to win the 2025 MTN FA Cup.
The win, according to the organisers, gives Kotoko their 10th FA Cup title, with Hearts of Oak leading with 12.
However, the Porcupines are challenging that record, insisting Hearts have won 11, not 12.
“We defeated Hearts of Oak 4-2 in 1990 at the Accra Sports Stadium to win the FA Cup,” Kotoko’s Equipment Officer, Issah Amadu said.
They [Hearts of Oak] protested against our player, Joe Debrah, claiming he had two yellow cards and was therefore not qualified to play.
Six months later, the Ghana FA declared Kotoko losers and Hearts of Oak winners. Meanwhile, we had already won the trophy and taken the medals. There was also no official record showing that the player had two yellow cards.
We have won 11 FA Cup titles — and so have Hearts — not 12, as is being claimed.”
The MTN FA Cup organizers are yet to react to the claim of the Porcupines.
Meanwhile, Kotoko are back in the CAF Confederation Cup after lifting the 2024/25 FA Cup.
