Essien played in last year’s final last season and is almost certain to play a key part over the next two weeks when Chelsea play Liverpool over two legs at the quarterfinal stage in what is becoming a regular affair. The first leg is due to take place on Wednesday and Essien says Chelsea must be as efficient as possible in order to give them a good chance of progressing at Stanford Bridge in two weeks time. “Some say the fixture is becoming boring because we have to play Liverpool every season for some time now but that is the way it goes and we must accept it,” he told KickOffGhana.com. “As the away team if we score at Anfield, we give ourselves a great chance of doing well.” Chelsea have to play catch up for much of the season in the race for the premier league title and while Essien admits its out of their hands, he feels winning the Champions League is more than doable. “With the Premiership we just have to win and see what happens. But like every member of the squad I want to win the Champions League especially after how close we were last season.”
