Michael Essien has signed a new two-year contract as assistant coach of FC Nordsjælland in Denmark.
The 42-year-old former Ghana international’s current deal was set to expire soon, but the club has extended his stay for another two years.
Essien initially joined the club as a player-coach before transitioning to a full-time coaching role in 2020.
Since becoming part of the coaching staff, Essien has become an integral member, utilizing his UEFA A-license and expertise gained from various courses.
The former Chelsea and Real Madrid midfielder has had a distinguished playing career, earning 59 caps for the Black Stars and featuring in two World Cups.
Essien recently turned down an opportunity to join Otto Addo as Ghana’s assistant coach, opting to continue his role at FC Nordsjælland. With his new contract, Essien is set to play a key role in shaping the team’s future
