Former Asante Kotoko board chairman, Herbert Mensah, has revealed that Ernst Middendorp, a former coach of the club, mentored renowned Ghanaian trainer Paa Kwesi Fabin to become a football coach.
The popular football administrator said the German coach discovered Fabin through his scouting routines at schools and villages.
Mensah said scouting at schools and villages was an initiative Middendorp initiated and it served the club well.
“Paa Kwesi Fabin was thought his coaching by Ernest Middensorp. I mean most of you understand that,” Mensah said at a press conference during the African Games in Ghana.
“The coach went into the schools to bow educate the teachers on the basic rudiments of what coaching is about.”
Mensah also expressed his admiration for the German coach’s technical prowess, highlighting him as a standout figure who made a significant impact during his tenure at Asante Kotoko and emphasized the coach’s dedication to scouting talent from grassroots levels, a quality that set him apart from others.
