Newly appointed Watford manager Walter Mazzarri has reportedly told management of the club he is interested in signing Ghanaian holding midfielder Alhassan Wakaso who won the best player for Rio Ave in the just ended Portuguese League season.

The 24-year-old midfielder is set to leave Rio Ave after spending three seasons with the Portuguese outfit.

Alhassan helped the lowly Portuguese side to secure qualification to the UEFA Europa League qualification stage and clubs in England, Italy and Spain are all circling for his signature.

According to Portuguese papers Walter Mazzarri who has taken over from Quique Sanchez Flores as head coach of Watford has identified the hard tackling midfielder as one of his key signings of the summer.

Alhassan Wakaso is the younger brother of Ghana international Mubarak Wakaso who played last season with Spanish side Las Palmas.
