Eintracht Frankfurt and Rangers ready for Europa League final showdown

Sevilla’s Roman Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium is the venue for Wednesday’s UEFA Europa League final between German club Eintracht Frankfurt and Scottish side Rangers.

Frankfurt are featuring in the third major European final after losing to Real Madrid in the 1960 European Cup showpiece and beating Borussia Monchengladbach in the 1980 UEFA Cup final.

As for Rangers, this is their second Europa League/UEFA Cup final in 14 years following their 2-0 loss to Zenit Saint Petersburg in the 2008 showpiece.

Can the Scottish side make amends for their defeat in 2008? Or will Frankfurt clinch their first piece of European silverware in over 40 years? It’s time to take a closer look at the teams.

Frankfurt kicked off their Europa League campaign without losing a game during the group stage, picking up three wins and three draws to finish three points clear at the top of Group D.

The German side then dispatched Real Betis in the round of 16 before sealing a memorable 4-3 aggregate victory over Barcelona in the quarter-finals.

In the semi-finals, the Eagles beat West Ham United 2-1 in London before winning the home leg 1-0 – advancing 3-1 on aggregate.

It is worth noting, however, that Frankfurt ended their Bundesliga campaign with an eight-game winless run to finish in eleventh place.

Having won just two of their final 13 Bundesliga outings, they will be eager to leave their domestic form at home and rediscover their impressive European form in Seville.

Meanwhile, Rangers registered two wins, two draws and two losses in the group stage – finishing second in Group A.

However, they secured a famous 6-4 aggregate win over Borussia Dortmund in the first knockout round before seeing off Red Star Belgrade and Braga to reach the semi-finals.

Against all the odds, the Scottish outfit clinched a famous 3-2 aggregate victory over RB Leipzig to book their place in the final.

Although Rangers finished as runners-up in the Scottish Premiership this season, they lost just three of their 38 league games – scoring 80 goals while conceding only 31.

Head-to-head: Eintracht Frankfurt and Rangers have faced each other on two occasions in Europe, although those meetings came all the way back in 1960.

The teams clashed in the semi-finals of the 1960 European Cup, with Frankfurt beating Rangers 12-4 on aggregate!

Team news: Frankfurt could be without as many as five players on Wednesday, with Diant Ramaj, Jan Schroder, Jesper Lindstrom, Martin Hinteregger and Danny da Costa all injured.

Rangers also have their fair share of injuries, with Nnamdi Ofoborh, Ianis Hagi, Alfredo Morelos and Filip Helander expected to the miss the final.

Rangers have done remarkably well to make it all the way to the final. However, Frankfurt should be too strong for the Scottish side.

Forebet predicts that Frankfurt will secure a low-scoring victory inside 90 minutes on Wednesday. A clean sheet is also on the cards for the German outfit.
