Crystal Palace emerged victorious in the 2025 Community Shield, defeating Liverpool 3-2 in a penalty shootout after the match ended 2-2 in regular time.
Eddie Nketiah, who joined Palace from Arsenal last summer and is of Ghanaiam descent, was part of the squad that secured this historic win.
The match saw Liverpool take the lead twice, first through Hugo Ekitike’s goal in the 4th minute and then Jeremie Frimpong’s long-range effort in the 21st minute.
However, Palace equalized both times, with Jean-Philippe Mateta scoring a penalty in the 17th minute and Ismaila Sarr netting in the 77th minute.
In the penalty shootout, Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson made crucial saves, securing the win for his team.
